The Glenwood Chamber Resort Association is seeking sponsorships for its annual gala and community awards ceremony on January 27. Fundraiser for the Red Hill Recreation Area
Aspen Valley Land Trust (AVLT) is raising funds for the protection of 25 acres of land adjacent to Carbondale’s popular Red Hill Recreation Area. The land, privately owned and zoned for commercial use for decades, is currently for sale. AVLT has a vision of purchasing and conserving the property, but ultimately transferring ownership to the Town of Carbondale for public use management with new trails to move users off the road currently utilized for trailhead access. The organization reports that the project budget is $1.35 million, and that significant funds have already been raised. Donors may make contributions until January 15. For details visit AVLT.org.
Winter Words 2018
Aspen Words kicks off its annual series of winter author discussions, presented at Paepcke Auditorium (1000 N. 3rd Street, Aspen) at 6 p.m. on selected Tuesdays from January-April. This month the series begins on January 9 with Alice McDermott, a National Book Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist who has published eight novels including her most recent work, “The Ninth Hour.” On January 23, the second discussion features U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith, author of three books of poetry and the critically acclaimed memoir “Ordinary Light.”
