Hotel Colorado and Vapor Caves Celebrate 125th Anniversary

Glenwood’s historic Hotel Colorado and the Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves are celebrating 125 years of high-country hospitality and relaxation this month. On Saturday, September 15, the businesses are hosting a joint birthday celebration, and the public is invited to attend a day of festivities in various downtown locations.

The party begins at 8 a.m. with a Rotary Club pancake breakfast under the Grand Avenue Bridge (7th Street side), followed by a parade across the pedestrian bridge at 10 a.m. Activities will then commence along 6th Street in front of the Hotel Colorado, including a Ute tribe blessing at 10:30 a.m., dignitary presentations at 12:30 p.m., a vaudeville show at 2 p.m., and free birthday cake at 4 p.m. in addition to live music and entertainment throughout the day. At 7 p.m., the Vapor Caves will offer free admission to the public. 2018 Electric Vehicle Sales Event

Now through October 31, six local auto dealerships are offering discounts on the purchase or lease of plug-in electric vehicles. The event, aimed at drivers in Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin counties, is led by Garfield Clean Energy, Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER), and Refuel Colorado. Participating dealerships include Audi Glenwood Springs, Mountain Chevrolet, Berthod Motors, Phil Long Honda, and Bighorn Toyota, all in Glenwood Springs, plus Red Rock Nissan in Grand Junction. Glenwood Community Concert Series Opens September 13

The Glenwood Springs Community Concert Association (GSCCA) opens its 2018-2019 season this month with a performance by BrassFire, featuring German-born Canadian star trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann. The concert will be held at Glenwood Springs High School’s Jeannie Miller Theatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 13. Admission is by annual GSCCA membership at $40/adult, $15/student, or $90/family.

Memberships include admission to all five of this season’s concerts. The remaining performers are the Dallas String Quartet (October 23), baritone Leon Williams (February 12), rock/opera mashup sensations The Jersey Tenors (March 2), and America’s Got Talent finalists Sons of Serendip (May 4).
