120th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) invites the valley’s birders to help count birds on December 15 for the 120th Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC), the longest-running citizen science survey in the world. Birders of all experience levels are welcome and encouraged to participate in this important census that has helped assess the health of bird populations and guided conservation action since 1900. Across the Western Hemisphere, over 50,000 people will be counting birds during local count events, many of them making the adventure of winter birding a seasonal tradition. Volunteers meet at Hallam Lake at 7:30 a.m. before heading out to cover the 15-mile diameter CBC circle in the Aspen vicinity. The count concludes mid-afternoon. The event is free and open to the public; please register at AspenNature.org.
